Meerut, February 22, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meerut on February 22 to inaugurate the much-awaited Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor and launch development projects worth approximately ₹12,930 crore.

At around 12:30 PM, the Prime Minister will flag off the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat train from Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station and travel to Meerut South Station. Later, he will address a public gathering after dedicating multiple infrastructure projects to the nation.

82-Km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor Dedicated to Nation

The Prime Minister will dedicate the 82-kilometre Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, marking a major milestone in India’s regional rapid transit infrastructure.

He will also inaugurate the remaining sections of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), including:

  • 5 km stretch from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi
  • 21 km stretch from Meerut South to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh

The high-speed corridor is expected to transform connectivity between Delhi and key urban centres in western Uttar Pradesh.

180 kmph Speed to Boost Regional Connectivity

With a top speed of 180 km per hour, Namo Bharat is India’s first regional rapid transit system designed for high-speed intercity travel.

Major urban hubs such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut will now be connected to Delhi faster than ever before, reducing travel time significantly.

Sarai Kale Khan Developed as Multi-Modal Transport Hub

Sarai Kale Khan station, one of the newly inaugurated stations, has been developed as a major multi-modal transport hub. It offers seamless connectivity to:

  • Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station
  • Delhi Metro Pink Line
  • Veer Hakikat Rai ISBT
  • Ring Road

Other newly operational stations include Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram in Meerut.

Meerut Metro to Run on Shared Infrastructure

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Meerut Metro service between Meerut South and Modipuram. The metro will operate on the same infrastructure as Namo Bharat — a first-of-its-kind integrated model in India.

The Meerut Metro will be India’s fastest metro system, with a maximum operational speed of approximately 120 km per hour. The full stretch will be covered in nearly 30 minutes, including designated stops.

Sustainable Urban Mobility and Reduced Emissions

The integrated operation of Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro aims to ensure seamless intercity and intra-city connectivity. The project is expected to:

  • Reduce road traffic congestion
  • Lower carbon dioxide emissions
  • Promote sustainable public transportation

The Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor represents a significant step toward modern, efficient and eco-friendly urban mobility in India, reinforcing the government’s push for next-generation transport infrastructure.
