The number of LPG cylinder bookings has declined as concerns over supply shortages eased and authorities intensified action against hoarding and black marketing across several states, according to an official statement released on Monday.
The update was shared by Press Information Bureau on its social media platform X.
LPG Bookings Fall to 77 Lakh
According to the statement, 77 lakh LPG cylinders were booked on March 14, compared to 88.8 lakh bookings recorded on March 13.
Officials also noted that online LPG bookings have increased significantly, accounting for 87 percent of total bookings, up from 84 percent earlier.
The government further clarified that no reports have been received of any LPG distributor running out of gas supplies.
Action Against Hoarding and Black Marketing
To curb hoarding and illegal sale of LPG cylinders, state authorities are conducting raids across the country.
Monitoring control rooms have also been set up in 22 states and union territories to closely track the situation and ensure smooth LPG distribution.
The government has appealed to consumers not to panic-book LPG cylinders and instead use digital booking platforms while avoiding unnecessary visits to LPG distributors.
Rule on LPG Connections for PNG Users
The government also stated that under the revised provisions of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, consumers who have Piped Natural Gas connections are required to surrender their LPG connections.
Government Ensures Uninterrupted Supply
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reiterated that the government continues to prioritise domestic consumers and is ensuring uninterrupted LPG supply, particularly for households, hospitals, and educational institutions.
LPG Carriers Reach India with Fresh Supplies
Meanwhile, two Indian-flagged LPG carrier ships — Shivalik and Nanda Devi — carrying about 92,712 metric tonnes of LPG crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday and are currently heading to India.
One of the vessels, Shivalik, reached Mundra Port on Monday, while Nanda Devi is expected to arrive at Kandla Port on Tuesday, ensuring steady LPG supplies in the country.
