Jaipur: The Rajasthan government led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has announced sweeping reforms aimed at accelerating economic growth and simplifying daily life for citizens. The new governance roadmap focuses on strengthening Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) and Ease of Living, eliminating unnecessary licenses, reducing red tape, and streamlining approvals across departments.
The reforms are expected to boost investment, create employment opportunities, and position Rajasthan as a leading business destination in India.
1. 24×7 Business Operations to Energise Economy
In a landmark move, the state government has permitted commercial establishments to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This decision is expected to:
- Boost night-time economy and tourism
- Support working professionals and travelers
- Increase business turnover through multiple shifts
- Create new job opportunities in retail and services
Jaipur and other urban centres are likely to witness enhanced commercial activity, especially in hospitality, retail and entertainment sectors.
2. End of ‘License Raj’ with Lifetime Registration
The government has proposed lifetime registration for shops and commercial establishments, eliminating the need for periodic renewals.
Through a “deemed licensing” system, businesses will only need to submit required information, after which approvals will be considered granted within a stipulated timeframe.
This reform aims to:
- Reduce bureaucratic delays
- Minimise corruption
- Save time and compliance costs for entrepreneurs
3. Single-Window Clearance for Faster Approvals
To simplify project implementation, Rajasthan will introduce a single-point contact system for land use, building approvals and labour department clearances.
Instead of approaching multiple departments, businesses will receive consolidated approvals through one platform, significantly reducing project delays. Investments that previously took months due to paperwork are expected to move forward within weeks.
4. Power Connections Based on Self-Declaration
For low-risk categories, the requirement of mandatory field inspections for electricity connections has been removed. Power distribution companies will now issue connections based on self-declaration.
This step eliminates “inspector raj” and enables faster industrial setup, particularly benefiting MSMEs and startups.
5. Employment Generation and Investment Growth
With 24×7 market operations and simplified compliance processes, the reforms are expected to generate substantial employment across sectors. Extended business hours will require additional staff, particularly for night shifts, strengthening the service economy.
The government believes these measures will enhance investor confidence, encourage small traders to expand operations, and attract large-scale investments.
Rajasthan’s Push Toward ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’
The comprehensive reform package reflects Rajasthan’s commitment to governance efficiency and economic transformation. By reducing unnecessary NOCs and regulatory hurdles, the state aims to foster a transparent, investor-friendly ecosystem.
Industry observers say these initiatives could significantly improve Rajasthan’s competitiveness in national ease-of-doing-business rankings and accelerate its journey toward becoming a top investment hub in India.
