‘Shakti Walk – #SheLeadsBharat’ to Be Held on March 8 at Kartavya Path to Mark International Women’s Day

The Ministry of Women and Child Development will organise a women-led walk titled “Shakti Walk – #SheLeadsBharat” along Kartavya Path in the national capital on March 8, as part of the celebrations for International Women’s Day 2026.

The initiative aims to highlight the central role of women in building a progressive and inclusive India while celebrating their leadership and contributions across various sectors.

Walk from India Gate to Vijay Chowk

According to the ministry, the event will take place from 7:30 am to 10:00 am, covering an approximate two-kilometre stretch from India Gate to Vijay Chowk along Kartavya Path.

Around 3,000 women from more than 150 ministries, departments and organisations are expected to participate in the event.

Participants will include representatives from the Armed Forces, police, media, healthcare, sports, government institutions, industry and grassroots organisations.

Participation from Women Leaders and Public Representatives

Women officers from various ministries and departments of the Government of India, along with representatives from international organisations, have also been invited to take part.

The walk will be led by women public representatives, including Union Ministers, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament (MPs), MLAs, and prominent women leaders from different fields.

The programme will begin with brief addresses by dignitaries, followed by the ceremonial flag-off of the walk.

Cultural Performances to Showcase India’s Diversity

Installations highlighting government schemes for women and the achievements of women across sectors will be displayed along Kartavya Path during the event.

A special cultural presentation at India Gate will celebrate the spirit of womanhood and national pride.

The performances will include Dollu Kunitha, Kalaripayattu, Sringarimelam, Ranchandi and Ghoomar, representing the cultural diversity and strength of women across India.

The programme will begin with a mass rendition of “Vande Mataram”, and balloons carrying the message “Shakti Walk – #SheLeadsBharat” will be released.

Celebrating Women’s Role in Viksit Bharat 2047

Officials said the event is part of the broader celebrations of International Women’s Day, observed globally on March 8 to recognise the achievements, leadership and contributions of women.

The initiative also reflects the government’s vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047”, emphasising the role of women in driving inclusive growth, empowerment and national development.
