PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Boosts Organ Donation Awareness: NOTTO Director Calls It Inspiring Campaign

The Director of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), Anil Kumar, has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for highlighting organ donation during the 131st edition of Mann Ki Baat.

Calling it an “excellent and inspiring campaign,” Anil Kumar said the Prime Minister’s message has the potential to bring a major shift in public mindset and significantly boost organ donation awareness across India.

Real-Life Stories Creating Positive Impact

In the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi shared real-life stories related to organ transplantation. Appreciating this initiative, the NOTTO Director said such examples send a strong and positive message to society.

He specifically mentioned the inspiring story of a 10-month-old baby whose organ donation saved four lives. According to him, emotional and real-life stories help reduce fear, myths, and social hesitation associated with organ donation.

“These stories help families understand that organ donation is a humanitarian act that can give new life to multiple patients,” he said.

Organ Donation Beyond Religion and Caste

Anil Kumar emphasized that organ donation is above religion, caste, or community. He described it as a purely humanitarian cause that requires participation from all sections of society.

He added that increasing public awareness is key to narrowing the gap between the demand and availability of organs in the country.

Digital Integration Strengthens Transplant System

Highlighting recent developments, the NOTTO chief said India’s organ transplant system has become more organized and transparent. A national digital platform now connects transplant hospitals, organ retrieval centers, tissue banks, and state-level institutions.

This digital integration has improved coordination, transparency, and efficiency in the organ allocation process, ensuring better outcomes for patients in need of life-saving transplants.

‘Jan Bhagidari’ Crucial for Success

Stressing the importance of “Jan Bhagidari” (public participation), Anil Kumar said government initiatives alone are not enough. Active involvement of citizens, awareness campaigns, and community support are essential to expand the organ donation movement.

He noted that stories of successful transplant recipients living normal lives further strengthen public trust in the healthcare system.

NOTTO plans to expand nationwide awareness programs inspired by the Prime Minister’s appeal, encouraging more people to understand the importance of organ donation and pledge to save lives.
