Jaipur Metro Expansion: Govt Mulls Metro Connectivity to Jagatpura and Vaishali Nagar

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has indicated plans to expand the Jaipur Metro network to ease traffic congestion in the city.

Replying to the debate on grant demands in the Rajasthan Assembly late at night, Urban Development and Housing (UDH) Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra announced that the government will examine the feasibility of extending metro services to Jagatpura and Vaishali Nagar.

Feasibility Study for New Metro Corridors

Minister Kharra said potential corridors for metro expansion in Jagatpura, Vaishali Nagar and other areas will be identified. Consultant-level studies are currently being conducted to assess possible routes and technical requirements.

“If found feasible, the metro network will be expanded,” he stated.

Major Step to Reduce Traffic Congestion

The minister highlighted that the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 route has been scientifically finalised based on detailed traffic-transport studies, surveys and financial-economic analysis.

The proposed corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod will connect high passenger-density areas, providing significant relief from traffic congestion in Jaipur.

Jaipur Metro Phase-2 Awaiting Central Approval

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Jaipur Metro Phase-2 is currently pending approval from the Union Cabinet. The Rajasthan government expects early clearance, which will further strengthen Jaipur’s urban transport infrastructure.

Jaipur Metro Phase-2 is proposed to span approximately 42.80 kilometers, with a total of 36 stations, including:

  • 34 elevated stations
  • 2 underground stations

The expansion is expected to enhance connectivity, improve daily commuting, and support Jaipur’s growing urban mobility needs.
