The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 4-lane access-controlled National Highway-927 from Barabanki to Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh at a cost of ₹6,969.04 crore.
The 101.5-km highway project, to be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), is part of the Lucknow–Rupaidiha corridor and aims to significantly enhance regional connectivity and economic growth.
Improved Connectivity and Road Safety
The project is designed to address existing challenges such as:
- Sharp curves and geometric deficiencies
- Traffic congestion in densely populated areas
Key features include:
- Access-controlled highway design
- Continuous service roads
- Bypasses around major habitations
These improvements are expected to:
- Reduce travel time to around one hour
- Increase average travel speeds
- Enhance road safety and fuel efficiency
Boost to Trade and Cross-Border Connectivity
The upgraded corridor will strengthen connectivity with major road networks, including:
- National Highways NH-27, NH-330B, NH-730
- State Highways SH-13 and SH-30B
It will also improve access to key infrastructure such as:
- Airports and railway stations
- Logistics hubs
- Rupaidiha Land Port near the India–Nepal border
The highway is expected to become a key trade route between India and Nepal, facilitating faster movement of goods and passengers.
Major Push for Economic Growth and Jobs
The project is expected to generate significant employment:
- 36.54 lakh person-days (direct employment)
- 43.04 lakh person-days (indirect employment)
It will also boost sectors such as:
- Agriculture
- Tourism
- Logistics
- Cross-border trade
Districts like Bahraich and Shravasti are likely to benefit the most.
Key Towns to Benefit from Project
The highway will connect important towns and regions, including:
- Barabanki
- Ramnagar
- Jarwal
- Kaisarganj
- Bahraich
It will also link key economic zones such as Special Economic Zones and Mega Food Parks.
Supporting PM GatiShakti Vision
With an expected traffic volume of over 28,000 Passenger Car Units (PCUs) by FY 2027-28, the project is aligned with the government’s PM GatiShakti initiative.
The plan aims to develop integrated, efficient, and future-ready infrastructure across India.

The NH-927 project is set to play a crucial role in improving regional mobility, boosting trade, and enhancing connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and the India–Nepal border.
