Honda to Manufacture First Electric Vehicle in Rajasthan’s Tapukara Plant, Production to Begin in 2026

Alwar, Rajasthan: In a major boost to India’s electric mobility sector, Honda Cars India Limited will manufacture its first electric vehicle (EV) at its Tapukara plant in Alwar, with production set to begin later this year.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma unveiled Honda’s first EV model, Honda Alpha, during a meeting with the company’s delegation at the Chief Minister’s Office.


Rajasthan Emerging as EV Manufacturing Hub

The Chief Minister said that the Tapukara plant is being developed as a major production hub for electric vehicles, reflecting global confidence in Rajasthan’s investment-friendly policies.

He added that this move is expected to:

  • Attract further investments in EV manufacturing
  • Promote industrial growth
  • Reduce dependence on petrol and diesel
  • Support environmental sustainability

Government Push for Electric Mobility

CM Bhajanlal Sharma highlighted the state government’s efforts to promote electric vehicles, including:

  • Subsidies on EV purchases
  • Development of charging infrastructure
  • Single-window clearance system for investors

These initiatives aim to accelerate the adoption of green mobility in Rajasthan.


Outcome of Japan Investment Outreach

The development follows the Chief Minister’s Japan visit in September 2024, during which he invited Honda’s top leadership to invest in EV manufacturing in Rajasthan.

The decision to manufacture Honda’s EV in Tapukara is seen as a direct outcome of these efforts.


Long Association Between Honda and Rajasthan

The Chief Minister noted Honda’s long-standing presence in the state:

  • Foundation of the plant laid in 2007
  • Vehicle production started in 2014
  • EV manufacturing to begin in 2026

He described the selection of Tapukara for EV production as a matter of pride for Rajasthan.


EVs to Be Exported Globally

Honda Cars India President and CEO Takashi Nakajima stated that the EVs manufactured at the Tapukara plant will be sold in the domestic market and also exported to multiple countries.


Boost to Green Industry and Employment

The project is expected to generate employment opportunities and position Rajasthan as a key player in India’s growing electric vehicle ecosystem.
